PS5 hit Elden Ring: Shadows of the Erdtree sells 5million copies in a week

Elden Ring expansion Shadow of the Erdtree has sold 5million copies in a week.

Bandai Namco hit Elden Ring was the game of the year last year for many a PS5 and Xbox player.

And in the huge DLC expansion to the base game, Shadow of the Erdtree is yet more brilliance from the game makers at FromSoftware.

They have made their brutal monster-slaying hit even harder with this expansive new open-world map.

You should expect to die, die and die again as you come up against underworld horrors, giants and grotesques in epic one-on-one battles.

In the expansion, players “step into the Realm of Shadow, a world full of mysteries and danger, riddled with more threatening bosses”.

It also brings a wide array of new spells, weapons, and armour for players to create their builds and overcome challenges in their own fighting style as you aim to find Miquella and his followers.

The makers said they were “humbled” by the huge sales of the popular console hit.

A spokesman said: “This milestone is the result of the tremendous support from fans all over the world, to whom we express our heartfelt gratitude.”

The monsters are bigger and nastier than ever

We’ve had a go ourselves and find it among the toughest games we’ve yet played.

But the visuals and the open world are stunning, with sublime gameplay, giving gamers a fresh feeling that’s just like when we first played the original base title.

It’s almost the cost of a full-price game, but well worth the £33 PS5 digital download fee if you’ve got the main game already.
