The ANC and DA need to repair their relationship if both are to rediscover the best versions of themselves and their parties and build a political centre to govern and maintain macroeconomic stability, writes Carol Paton.

Over the past few days, the ANC and the DA have somehow snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

The maturity that was on display a month ago has evaporated. The atmosphere is thick with animosity. While the government of national unity (GNU) was still alive, by the end of Thursday, its survival was not assured.
