THE assault case of Jozi FM host, Tshepo Junior Makgopa is trial-ready.

Makgopa briefly appeared in the Protea Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 17 July, and the matter was postponed to Thursday, 1 August.

The matter is remanded as the state isn’t ready. During court proceedings, Makgopa’s lawyer was given 10 to 20 minutes to consult with his client and the witnesses.

The state witnesses, Tshepiso Rose Buthelezi, who is the victim, and Prince Shabangu were present in court. The magistrate said the matter is remanded as the state is not ready to proceed.

“The 1st of August is perfect as I’ll be around doing other matters. I don’t have anything to do that day and we can proceed with your client’s trial,” he said.

“The matter is getting postponed today as the state isn’t ready. The trial must start at 11am not later. I’m managing time so we can’t sit this matter down. I’ve given you more time, but today we won’t do it.”

Tshepo’s lawyer said he had two witnesses for now.

“Your worship, I have two witnesses for now. We will have others in the next court session,” he said.

The magistrate asked why he had two, adding that they should have done everything accordingly.

“You should have made sure they were all here. Why can’t we have them all now and we only have two?” he said.

Makgopa is accused of assaulting his wife’s friend, Buthelezi. She alleged that Makgopa assaulted her on 27 January, while returning from an outing with his wife, Tshego.
