Snl24 | Motaung clarifies Arthur Zwane’s role at Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr has offered clarity on the current role of former club head coach Arthur Zwane.

Chiefs had appointed Zwane as head coach at the start of the 22/23 season in a campaign that yielded far less than expected. The Zwane-led Amakhosi finished 5th on the log table and saw a run of eight years without silverware continue.

Molefi Ntseki and Cavin Johnson were each given the helm for the 2023/24 and both fared even worse, plunging Chiefs to a 10th spot finish – their lowest in the PSL era.

During that period, very little was known or seen of Arthur Zwane, with the club only communicating that he would return to the team’s youth structures in a role that was never publicly specified.

However, speaking to journalists at the launch of Amakhosi’s Home and Away kits for the 24/25 season held at the club’s base in Naturena on Thursday, Motaung Jnr gave some more insight into Zwane’s current role.

“Coach Arthur? His title is senior academy coach. His task is very important. He works with our DDC, Under 19 teams, 17, 15 and 13 in order to provide a blanket playing philosophy,” Motaung said.

“So his role at this time is spent with each of the groups to make sure that we have uniformity and be able to continue our progression upwards for the youth players.

“He also forms part of our scouting department, so ja, his role is very clear.”

Chiefs will take on Tanzania champions  Young Africans in the Toyota Cup at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein on Sunday.
