Snl24 | Leleti Khumalo to shake up Muvhango!

Leleti Khumalo will be playing the role of Dr Ximba in Muvhango.

ICONIC actress Leleti Khumalo is set to make a comeback to TV.

The star of Sarafina! will join the cast of Muvhango for its 26th season, which debuts on 5 August.

Her last TV appearance was in Imbewu, which concluded in 2023.

In a conversation with Daily Sun, Leleti was over-excited about her return to the SABC.

“I’m making a comeback on the SABC because that’s where I started my career on the small screen in Generations. And when I received the call, I thought, ‘why not return to where it all began?’. It’s more than just a return. I’m joining Muvhango, a show with a long history,” Leleti said.

“I wondered if I was making a mistake because I knew it wouldn’t be easy. It’s like finding a home that’s fully furnished and warm, and you just need to add your personal touch. That’s what I need to do. It won’t be easy. It’ll require me to dig deep.”

Leleti will play Dr Nonhlanhla Ximba, a character unlike any she has played before.

“I’m playing a character that has not been played by Leleti before, which is thrilling. I’m both excited and nervous. It’s a beautiful storyline with twists and turns. At times, when I read the script, I wonder, ‘can I deliver?’ There’s a lot of romance, deceit, conflict, and surgeries, but it’s a compelling story. I can’t reveal much, but urge everyone to watch,” she said.

She also commented on the trend of long-running shows like 7de Laan and Isidingo coming to an end, as she joins a series that’s been airing for 27 years.

“As actors, we need work, and it’s sad when producers decide to end shows. There’s nothing fundamentally wrong with long-format shows. We’ve enjoyed series like Days of Our Lives for years, and still love them. I see no issue with our shows having many seasons, as long as we continue to rejuvenate the narratives,” Leleti added.
