This week, Big Zulu sat down with David Mashabela on the King David Studio podcast to discuss his career and outlook on relationships.According to the Mali Eningi hitmaker, he prefers traditional relationship roles and wants to be the “provider” in his household.The 38-year-old also touched on how modern women, in his opinion, have lost their homemaking skills.As humans evolved, so have their dating styles, relationship dynamics and perceptions of traditional gender roles.
These days, it isn’t uncommon to witness a household where the man is the stay-at-home parent while the woman works and provides for the family financially.
Because of this shift, many working-class women have also stopped putting as much effort as their mothers into homemaking and expect their partners to put in equal work regarding cooking, cleaning and childrearing. This dynamic, shared by local rapper Big Zulu, does not interest or impress him.
The rapper—real name Siyabonga Nene—recently sat down with David Mashabela on the King David Studio podcast to discuss his career and personal life.
According to Big Zulu, he prefers “traditional” relationships and wants a woman who is okay with being provided for. He also added how he does not believe in equality between men and women and wants to be the head of his household.
This is something he also wants to instil in his children.
He said:
I want to be a man to my family and to my wife. I don’t recognise that ’50/50′, and I don’t want my kids to grow up knowing that.
The father of two also expressed disdain for “city women” who don’t cook and rely on modern conveniences like house helpers and food delivery services.
“They only know how to order food online,” he said. According to him, these kinds of women don’t prioritise marriage or the responsibilities that come with it and instead opt for casual relationships—another no-no for him.
The rapper also touched on how a woman’s beauty means nothing if she mistreats her partner.
“Beauty may attract a man, but it is the treatment and behaviour of a woman that ultimately determines her suitability as a wife,” he said.
