Winner of the Nando’s Emerging Artist of the Year category at the 2023 Basadi in Music Awards, Noluthando Ngema, who believes black women are meant to be loved well, tenderly and intentionally.

THIS is a month to celebrate women, and this singer is sick and tired of women being described as toxic.

Through her latest single Black Girls Deserve Good Love Too, she reminds people of the tenderness and simplicity of love.

“I heard news of someone close to me whose partner has been unfaithful even after she had been dedicated and committed to the relationship. I was disheartened because we hear these kinds of stories a lot in the black community and women are told to persevere in relationships or marriages that are unfulfilling, filled with betrayal, and often abusive emotionally and physically,” Noluthando said.

She said winning the Nando’s Emerging Artist has been a great experience.

“After winning at the Basadi in Music Awards, it’s allowed me to have the kindest and most sincere person as a mentor, which is a rare find in this industry. Msaki has not only opened her heart to me but showed me how to navigate through difficult situations that come with being in this industry.”

She said there are challenges in the industry but what has helped her is knowing why she’s in the industry in the first place.

“I’m here because I believe Jesus has placed me here as a beacon of hope and faith in the midst of disappointments, restarts, failed starts, mental health issues and more,” she explained.

“I may not have the most powerful voice or be the most skilled songwriter, however, knowing the why behind the music I create, helps me not to compete with others.”
