KING Misuzulu’s budget for the Zulu royal household has been decreased by about R3 million.

On Tuesday, 13 August, KZN Premier Thami Ntuli announced that he’s allocating R77,507 million to the Zulu royal household.

This comes after King Misuzulu received an increase in 2023 when he was allocated about R80 million, up from R66,074 million in 2022.

The annual budget for 2021 was frozen due to the throne dispute between King Misuzulu and his half-brother, Prince Simakade.

This budget is responsible for the Zulu royal annual cultural and traditional ceremonies, such as the Reed Dance festival and many more.

Delivering his budget speech, Premier Ntuli said the Office of the Premier is also responsible for the Royal Household Trust.

“In this regard, the Office of the Premier provides support to the Royal Household Trust. His Majesty, the King’s activities include, among other things, hosting annual traditional and cultural events to preserve and restore the Zulu culture, as well as hosting and celebrating heritage events such as the King’s coronation.

“The appointment of the new Board of Trustees is expected to be finalised in this financial year,” he said.

King Misuzulu will be hosting the annual Umkhosi Wesivivane, where elderly women will gather at KwaKhangelamankengane Royal Palace to share their challenges and receive an address from him in Nongoma on Saturday, 17 August.

The event will also bring together virginity testers before the two annual Reed Dance festivals to be held in Ingwavuma and Nongoma in September.

Inside sources told Daily Sun that on Tuesday, 13 August, King Misuzulu assigned his new wife, Queen Nomzamo Myeni, to be the queen of Emachobeni Royal Palace in Ingwavuma, northern KZN.

The first leg of the Reed Dance festival will be held at Emachobeni Royal Palace, and the main Reed Dance Festival will take place at Enyokeni Royal Palace in Nongoma in September.

Misuzulu still has to appoint his new spokesperson after he fired Prince Africa as his spokesman earlier in 2024.
