Discussion | Jeppestown fire | Burning issue of inner city housing crisis

JOHANNESBURG – Abandoned and hijacked buildings in Johannesburg are, quite literally, a burning issue.

In the latest incident, a fire a derelict Jeppestown building left four dead, three injured and hundreds displaced.

Last August last year, 76 people died in a blaze at the hijacked Usindiso Building in the inner city.

At the time, the city made public promises to address the issue of hijacked buildings.

We find out what happened to those plans from Joburg Human Settlements MMC, Mlungisi Mabaso.

What do you think?
