Lynn Forbes reflected on grieving her son, rapper AKA, by visiting his graveside. She said that in a dream, the rapper asked her to visit frequently.
AKA was murdered in Durban on 10 February 2023.It’s been 16 months since the death of rapper AKA, and his mom, Lynn Forbes, has taken to her Instagram to remember her son.

The rapper was murdered in Durban outside a restaurant on 10 February 2023.

Lynn reflected on the peace she feels when she visits AKA’s grave, posting a picture of her by the headstone.

“Visiting your grave has become easier to do. It brings me so much comfort, grounds me and gives me peace at the same time.”

“In my dream, you asked me to visit often and enjoy this peaceful setting, and you were right. Talking to you, updating you on what’s happening with Kairo, the family, and anything I think you would want to know makes me feel more connected to you.”

Lynn then wrote about how much she misses the rapper and how the experience is helping to keep AKA’s memory alive.

“Sometimes, I find comfort in just sitting quietly with you to think and pray. I miss you terribly, but my heart is at peace.”

Speaking to News24 days before AKA’s birthday, Lynn said that although there have been no arrests on the case yet, she has accepted that her son is not coming back.

“So, I’m just going to speak as a mom, and I’m going to speak for myself when you lose your child, you never prepared for that. I accepted very long ago that Kiernan is not here anymore and that there’s nothing I can do about it.”

Lynn said she understands people would not necessarily agree with her stance. When people speak of justice because of who AKA was, she believes more needs to be done regarding crime in South Africa.

“I believe that as a country, we need changes in terms of crime. My son is not the only person who was assassinated, and I would like for us to see a South Africa where that doesn’t happen anymore and where we don’t just have to cast the attention on celebrities dying.”
