Two teenage brothers were gunned down in Lavender Hill, Cape Town, on Saturday morning, Western Cape police said.
The victims, aged 14 and 17, were ambushed while walking along St Bernard Street around 06:30 and suffered fatal gunshot wounds to their heads, police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said.
“Provincial Anti-Gang Unit members with support from Steenberg police and other police contingents are following leads in search of the perpetrators of the shooting,” Potelwa said.
She said additional police forces had been deployed in the search to bolster security in the area.
Police have opened a double murder docket and are following leads to apprehend the suspects.
Steenberg Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairperson Gavin Walbrugh said it was “very worrying” that young victims did not “escape violence”.
“We are at a loss because we don’t know the reason for this. The SAPS assured us that they are investigating a case of the double murder. As the Steenberg CPF, we would like to extend our sincere condolences to the parents and broader community.”
