South Africa’s Fashion Designer Disappoints Nigerians

Nigerians poke fun at South Africa’s fashion designers following a successful Durban July 2024 over the past weekend.

The Durban July, one of South Africa’s most prestigious horse racing events, also serves as a glamorous fashion showcase, drawing designers and fashion enthusiasts from across the continent.

However, the 2024 edition has sparked a wave of humorous commentary from Nigerians, who have taken to social media to critique and poke fun at some of the bold fashion choices on display.

Despite apparent inspiration from some Nigerian designs, a couple of South African fashion designers fell short of impressing, leading to a flurry of critiques from Nigerians who expected more.

Influencer and DJ Cyan Boujee rocked one of the Naija inspirations, but her designer failed to do justice as her outfit was mocked by both Mzansi and 9ja social media users.

“I mean if you gonna copy/be inspired by someone else’s work . At least do it good no?” an X user wrote.

Now imagine if they Nigerian celebrities were to come to Durban they were going to wipe the floor with South Africans

Thanks Danilo for the flowers. “We no dey carry last” Tailoring is one of the most transferred skill in Nigeria.

It’s not a surprise that many of our designers are exceptionally good. I made few designs for some South Africans too.

And they love it.

One love🫶🏾
