Snl24 | Shots in the air in memory of slain MK party members

MEMBERS of the MK party gathered in Ramza Street in Daveyton to honour three of their fallen heroes.

The three members were shot dead on Sunday evening, 28 July by suspected thugs who fled on foot after the incident.

On Thursday, 1 August members were at the spot where one of their own, Sipho Mashele died. They held a candlelight ceremony and later prayed. They also sang, fired shots in the air and revved cars.

Sipho (42) and his colleague, Sfiso Mtshweni, who were security guards at Open City security company died trying to defend their colleague Jabu Masuku who’s from another security company, Induku.

Jabu was patrolling Ramza Street when he was shot through the window of the car by unknown gunmen. Sipho and Sfiso heard gunshots and came rushing to save him, but they were also shot dead.

Ekurhuleni MK party regional co-ordinator, General Monk Mlangeni said the two guards, also MK party members, were not far from where Jabu was shot.

“They were disarmed and shot dead in the same spot. We’re saddened because these three cadres were defenders of the community,” Mlangeni said.

After the candlelight ceremony, MK party and family members went to his home to hold a short memorial service. Speaker after speaker highlighted how the three cadres died brutally and condemned their death.

Meanwhile, Jabu’s memorial service was held separately in Etwatwa at Harry Gwala Secondary School.

Sipho’s nephew, Moses Bela said they have been devastated by his sudden departure.

“It was better if he became sick. For someone to die like this is painful. His wife is not coping at all,” Moses said.

Ekurhuleni district police spokeswoman, Captain Nelda Sekgobela said the police are investigating three murder cases.
