Mamelodi Sundowns striker Thabang Sibanyoni, who has spent the last two seasons on loan at SuperSport United and the University of Pretoria, is poised for yet another loan spell in the upcoming season, according to insiders privy to information.
Siya sources close to the club have indicated that several DStv Premiership clubs have expressed interest in acquiring his services on loan, which is believe to include newcomers Magesi FC, as well as Richards Bay and SuperSport United.

“There are a few teams already which have shown interest in Thabang (Sibanyoni) including Magesi FC and AmaZulu. You know he was on loan last season at University of Pretoria and he did very well. The club is set to make the last decision on where the striker will go just before the start of the new season. They are looking at who they will bring in as well – then make the final decision. But for now, he is set for another loan move,” the Siya source stated.
Additionally, SuperSport, where Sibanyoni spent the 2022/23 season, are also keen on securing his services again, according to a second insider.

“They have lost another Sundowns striker in Etiosa Ighodaro and they are working on getting Thabang (Sibanyoni) this time around. They have a great working relationship together and they stand a better chance than other clubs like AmaZulu or Magesi. So, he is in demand and if Sundowns want to loan him then there won’t be a lack of suitors at all,” the second source stated.
The 28-year-old striker featured in most games in the Motsepe Foundation League with Tuks last season. However, he was unable to help the team gain promotion to the DStv Premiership after losing out to Richards Bay in the promotion/relegation playoffs, where he played four games without finding the back of the net. Though he did provide one assist.
Soccer Laduma contacted his agent, Themba Tshabalala for comment but couldn’t get through to his phone before publishing this report.
Sibanyoni’s situation highlights the challenges and opportunities faced by players on the fringes of major PSL teams. While he has shown potential and effectiveness in lower leagues, finding a stable position in a DStv Premiership team where he can consistently showcase his skills remains a pivotal next step in his career. As the new season approaches, the decision on his next move will be crucial for both his development and the plans of the involved clubs.
