Three people died, and 26 others were rushed to hospital in an accident involving a bus and a bakkie.
THREE people died following a collision between a bus and a bakkie east of Tshwane.
Charles Mabaso, deputy chief of the City of Tshwane Emergency Services Department, reported that the incident occurred on the M10 Road in Bynespoort near Cullinan on 27 June around 3.09pm.
Upon arrival, emergency services found a bus that had collided with a bakkie, which was stuck under the bus.
“A lot of patients from the bus received emergency medical treatment from various ambulance services at the scene. Firefighters extricated a male patient trapped inside the bakkie. He was presumed dead,” Mabaso explained.

A heavy lifting towing truck was subsequently requested to assist with lifting the bus to facilitate the extrication of the trapped victim.
“Once the bus was lifted, two additional victims, boys aged around 14 years, were found inside the bakkie. The three victims, an adult male and two boys, were declared dead by paramedics at the scene,” Mabaso added.
“In total, 26 patients were transported to Mamelodi Day Hospital and Stanza Bopape Clinic with injuries ranging from minor to moderate by the Gauteng Emergency Medical Services and other ambulance services,” Mabaso continued.
He also noted that the cause of the accident is currently under police investigation.
Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo, Gauteng police spokesman, said: “Police have opened a case of culpable homicide for further investigation.”
