The jobs emergency | Vanderbiljpark at risk of turning into ghost town

JOHANNESBURG – Vanderbijlpark in Gauteng runs the very real risk of turning into a ghost town.

This is if ArcelorMittal goes ahead with shutting down some of its long-steel plants.

Around 3,500 direct jobs will be affected.

But, the downstream ripple effects could affect up to 100,000 livelihoods.

Employment and Labour Minister Nomakhosazana Meth has met with ArcelorMittal, looking for possible interventions.
